Is fitting a TV Aerial on to a chimney better than in a loft?
A TV Aerial which is set up to receive Freeview Digital TV can be set up externally or the on the inside of a house in the UK. When the Aerial is set up externally of a house it will always be fixed on 2 parts of the building. 1 is to fix the aerial via a mast and bracket to the wall or 2 is to attach the aerial to the chimney at the top of the property. This is the most common method as it avails the best reception due to the high level and uninhibited view & reception.
Another method is by carrying out a TV Aerial Installation in the loft space. The advantages of a loft aerial is that the equipment is out of sight and doesn't reduce the aesthetics of the house. The Tv Aerial, in and splitter some cases cable is kept internal and away from the ravages of the UK weather. However there are down sides to a loft aerial. In lofts there can be a lowering of signal reception of up to 50Per cent. This can drastically lower the signal quality and strength, making it impossible to receive a good picture on the television. Where this is the case a externally mounted TV Aerial is necessary.
When installing an aerial on a chimney there are a few different methods. one way is to use a lashing kit. This is a length of wire cable the wraps around the chimney and is attached to a bracket that sits on a corner of the chimney bunch. The cable is tightened so the whole rig is secure and therefore the mast and aerial is attached to the bracket. This is the most common way to fit a Tv Aerial onto a Chimney bunch. Another way is to drill into the bunch, fixing a wall bracket to it and therefore the aerial and mast fit to the bracket. Finally the less popular method but still very secure is to us a strap method. The straps loops around the chimney bunch and attaches to the corner bracket which has to ratchets on it. The ratchets then tighten the straps and locked in place providing a very secure chimney bracket. Again once secure the mast and aerial is attached to the bracket.
